Welcome to Bob's ‘Traditional Paintings’ gallery, here you can see a selection of his paintings on canvas and on panel. Some of the paintings here have their own story to tell, take ‘In Good Company’ for example, apart for being the escort ship to the Royal Yacht Britannia for the 1993 Battle of the Atlantic Commemorations (B93) which were held on the River Mersey in Liverpool, HMS Cornwall was also at the centre of an International incident in 2007. On the weekend of April 22nd hundreds of thousands of people converged on Liverpool to see a fifty foot tall giant dressed in a diving suit and his Granddaughter plus a huge black dog. The events over that weekend inspired me to paint 'Gulliver'

April Snow 30x16 inches
When I found the photograph I used for this painting I was immediately captivated by the colours of the trees in the background and the overall serene nature of the scene The warm Burnt Sienna colour of the trees contrasting with the cool Ultramarine Blue of the snow in the shadows. April can still remind you that winter is not finished with you yet.
Backstreets Canal Scene Venice.
When I am looking for ideas/inspiration for a painting either by looking through old photos in my collection or from photos sourced from websites dedicated to supplying photo reference for artists’s, as was the case for this painting. I look out for; ’subject’ do I find the overall composition of the photograph exciting enough to paint, or, is there something in the photo I can crop and create a new painting from or add to another image to build a new composition?. ‘Colour', as I am scrolling through image after image, I am usually stopped in my tracks by colours, as was the case for this painting ‘Canal Scene Venice’. I was struck by the warmth of the scene, how the colours compliment each other, and also, it’s not the usual ’tourists’ shot of Venice
Overgrown Allotment 80x80 cm
There is a small village just a few miles from where I live in Sefton, it is called Lunt Village.
There is a path that runs down to the River Alt, which is more like a stream that meanders through the meadows, there is a large wildlife sanctuary which is part of the much larger W W T Martin Mere Wetland Centre. As I walked along the path I noticed a gap in a hedge and saw this old shed in a garden which was completely overgrow

Still Life with Asparagus 67x47 cm
A still life painting was not on my list of things to paint, I just did not have any interest in painting one, but this was an exception. I used a lot of glazes to get the depth in this painting, which was painted on panel, and it turned out to be one of my favourite paintings
